Bahman at the Alter

St. John’s Anglican is a beautiful old white church in the centre of the former village of Nelson, now at the north edge of      Burlington, Ontario.  It is the second oldest parish in Burlington      founded in 1835.  Among the founding families of the parish were       the Irelands, whose pioneer home is today the site of the Ireland House Museum.  The present church was built in 1839 and is surrounded by an award winning, restored pioneer cemetery.

The parish hall, built in 1989, is home to the Burlington Montessori Preschool,   and the 31st Burlington Scouts.

St. John’s supports the outreach ministries of: Bethany House, Partner West Food Bank, and the Christmas Hamper Program.

Our family friendly service starts at 10:00 a.m. service every Sunday, with coffee and fellowship in the upper hall after each service.

Statement of Faith:

We believe in God above us, maker and sustainer of all life, of sun and moon, of water and earth, of male and female.  We believe in God beside us, Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, born of a woman, servant of the poor, tortured and nailed to a tree.  A man of sorrows, he died forsaken.  He descended into the earth, to the place of death.

On the third day he rose from the tomb.  He ascended into heaven to be everywhere present and his Kingdom will come on Earth.  We believe in God within us, the Holy Spirit of Pentecostal fire, life-giving breath of the church, Spirit of resurrection and eternal life.  Amen.

Who Are We?

St John’s is part of the world-wide Anglican communion.  We strive to live up to our motto of “Open Doors; Open Hearts; Open Minds” as a loving, joyful, and Christ-centred community, serving God by serving others.  We worship in a sacramental way, meaning that Holy Communion (Eucharist) is the fundamental part of our Sunday gatherings.
